Departure & Athirappilly Falls
Night departure from Chennai/Coimbatore. Arrive Chalakudy (near Athirappilly) early morning. Freshen up at hotel. Morning: Visit Athirappilly Waterfalls — South India's largest waterfall at 80 feet height. Explore both the top and bottom viewpoints. Afternoon: Visit Vazhachal Falls nearby. Lunch on the way. Proceed to Valparai on the famous 40-hairpin-bend road. Spot lion-tailed macaques, hornbills and elephants en route. Evening: Check-in to tea estate resort in Valparai. Dinner. Overnight stay.
Valparai Tea Estates & Sholayar Dam
Early morning: Sunrise walk through the tea estate (absolutely beautiful golden light on the tea leaves). Breakfast at the resort. Forenoon: Visit Sholayar Dam — stunning reservoir surrounded by dense forests. The dam viewpoint offers some of the best landscape photos in Tamil Nadu. Afternoon: Tea estate tour — learn about the plucking, withering, rolling and drying process. Fresh tea tasting. Late afternoon: Wildlife spotting at Iyerpadi — lion-tailed macaques regularly visit the roadsides here. Evening: Group bonfire or sit-together at the resort. Dinner. Overnight Valparai.
Monkey Falls & Return
Morning: Breakfast. Check-out. Scenic drive back down the hairpin bends. Stop at Monkey Falls — a beautiful small waterfall right on the road where monkeys come down to drink water. Swimming allowed. Afternoon: Lunch at Pollachi. Begin return journey to Chennai/Coimbatore. Arrive home by evening. Trip ends!
