About Athirappilly
Athirappilly Falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala, located in the Chalakudy River at the entrance of the Sholayar ranges. At 80 feet high and 330 feet wide, it is often compared to Niagara Falls for its sheer power and grandeur. The falls are located within the Vazhachal Forest Division, part of the Western Ghats.
The area around Athirappilly is one of the last remaining lowland evergreen rainforests in South India and a recognized biodiversity hotspot. Four species of hornbills, including the endangered Malabar pied hornbill, can be spotted here along with otters, elephants and over 200 species of birds.
